Course Overview

Instruction in achieving minimal and moderate sedation in dentistry using:

  • Oral sedation
  • Nitrous oxide-oxygen sedation

Course content includes a review of

  • Minimal Sedation
  • Moderate Sedation
  • Oral sedative pharmacology
  • Oral sedation regimens
  • Nitrous oxide pharmacology
  • Nitrous oxide equipment and administration
  • Monitoring
  • Respiratory physiology
  • RCDSO Guidelines

Each participant will get experience in the clinical application of nitrous oxide sedation.

Please Note: The course on Medical Emergencies on April 27 is a prerequisite to the course on Oral Sedation and Nitrous Oxide Sedation.

Objectives

Successful completion of this course, which includes prior reading assignments and 2 multiple-choice tests, qualifies dentists to administer minimal and moderate sedation by means of an oral sedative, nitrous oxide-oxygen, or a combination of these 2 modalities.

CANCELLATION POLICY: Two weeks prior to course date – 100% refund. One week prior to course date – 50% refund. There is no refund for cancellations after one week prior to course date.

Biographies

Dr. Daniel Haas is Professor and Associate Dean at the University of Toronto Faculty of Dentistry, with a cross-appointment to the Department of Pharmacology at the Faculty of Medicine. He holds the Chapman Chair in Clinical Sciences, is Head the Discipline of Dental Anaesthesia and Director the graduate program in Dental Anaesthesia.

Dr. Michelle Tang is Assistant Professor in the Discipline of Dental Anaesthesia at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Dentistry. She practices as a dental anaesthesiologist in a private clinic in Kitchener, Ontario.

Dr. Carilynne Yarascavitch is a clinical instructor in the discipline of Dental Anaesthesia at the University of Toronto. She is an instructor in Advanced Cardiac Life Support with Sunnybrook Health Sciences and a Research Fellow with the Wilson Centre at the Toronto General Hospital.
